The majority of residents in Windsor-Essex are complying with new recycling rules not to put plastic bags in blue boxes.
The Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority (EWSWA) is reporting that 96% of homes in Windsor had no plastic bags in their recycling. However, 400 homes didn't have their recycling picked up because there were plastic bags.
The new measures went into effect June 1 because the incoming plastic bags were a major source of contamination and increased the cost to recycle.
Plastic bags include bread bags, chip bags, snack bags, pet waste bags, milk bags, cereal bags and no plastic wrap.
