The intersection at Manning Road and County Rd 22 is set to get a major facelift.
Work gets underway May 29 on the $6.9-million project which will see several turning lanes added in all directions to cut down on traffic congestion.
The intersection sees an average of 40,000 vehicles per day and Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara says it has become a headache for many motorists.
He says the project is well overdue.
"It's an intersection, right now, that doesn't perform very well. It doesn't have the proper turning lanes as well as its been a real safety issue. So we've been working on this for a while with the county and finally, a tender has been accepted."
McNamara says the region has outgrown the intersection.
"That corridor between the City of Windsor and Belle River has grown dramatically in the last ten years. It was a real, I call it a pressure point, within the area. What we're going to be able to experience now is that traffic is going to be able to flow a lot better. It's going to be backing up like it has been."

He says it's a situation of short-term pain for long-term gain.
"We're asking residents to be patient. It's going to create some havocs in other parts of the community in some of our local roads. So we ask folks to take extra time, but the good news is that we're going to have a proper, functioning intersection."
McNamara adds the County of Essex will use the hashtag #CR2219 on social media to post information about road closures during construction.
The project is scheduled to be completed by November 30.
