Hotel Dieu Grace Healthcare is investing in a local initiative to help at-risk youth.
At a special meeting on Wednesday, the Board of Directors announced a $100,000 grant to the ProsperUS Cradle to Career program.
ProsperUS represents a total of 45 organizations both in the public and private sector working to improve Windsor-Essex for local youth.
Co-Chair Jim Inglis says the money will really help move the program forward.
"Ensure that the youth of our future - because they're so important - are going to get the support that they need in our communities to make it a very healthy, prosperous and strong Windsor-Essex," says Inglis.
The money would pay for training and development workshops in communities to engage youth as well as access to transportation and support for childcare and food costs for participants in the program.
Inglis tells AM800 News the $100,000 will allow the organization to connect with more residents.
"That's going to enable us to be able to engage them in the activities and the programs that we're going to be doing," says Inglis. "Without that donation, it may have taken us a little longer to move the pace and the needle on the initiatives when we start to roll it out."
Inglis says the local organizations took it upon themselves to launch the initiative.
"What we realized is that no government, no private or public sector can do this on their own and so this is about bringing us all together as a united front."
The specific communities in Windsor-Essex that will benefit from the money will be announced in the coming weeks.
