The Town of LaSalle is getting an address change.
For several years, many residents in the municipality have had to use a Windsor mailing address to avoid confusion with Canada Post.
LaSalle Mayor Ken Antaya says the town has been requesting a change for quite some time and Canada Post has finally agreed to make the update.
"It was a crusade of this community for a number of years where we would almost make an annual plea to Canada Post. Over the years we made the argument that you've said that it's the postal code that's so important, what difference does it make if it says LaSalle or Windsor? But they were very rigid in their response to us and basically said no."
He says it's a matter of civic pride for residents.
"We want to be known as a different community. We're not part of anybody else. We're part of a county system and we're an individual municipality and I think you see that in their constant comments to our members of council regarding issues like policing. It's something that they don't want to let go of because it identifies their autonomy."

Antaya says previous councils were pushing for the change as well.
"Council members that were on previous councils, they're probably smiling at this now in knowing that their efforts are not in vain either because it just didn't fall out of the sky. It's something that we have tried for a number of years and now maybe this continuous harping finally bore some fruit."
The address change process is expected to begin in the near future.
Antaya says he'd like to see it completed before the 2018 municipal election so voter information is properly addressed to LaSalle residents.
