MADD Windsor Essex County is launching its Project Red Ribbon Campaign.
The campaign kicks off this afternoon at Kennedy Collegiate Secondary School.
Community Leader Chaouki Hamka says it's an awareness campaign asking the public to plan ahead and not be impaired by drugs or alcohol when getting behind the wheel this holiday season.
He says it's the 30th year for the Red Ribbon Campaign.
"The red ribbon, when you wear the ribbon, when you share it, when you tie it, you're making a commitment to drive safe and sober so we really want to get this message across especially this year."
He says it's a simple holiday message.
"We encourage the public to get out there and tie a ribbon on," says Hamka. " We always say tie it, share it and wear it so just support us, make good decisions that's what this campaign is all about throughout the holiday season."
He says this year the campaign will also focus on marijuana use.
"This year specifically it's a lot more important as well because with the legalization of marijuana and the process, we really want to reach out specifically target marijuana as an impairment factor when driving so we want to get that out there as well."
The ribbon can be found at local police and EMS stations or by calling the local chapter of MADD.
The campaign wraps up on January 8th.
