MADD Windsor & Essex County has launched its annual Project Red Ribbon Campaign.
The campaign was launched on Friday in LaSalle outside of police headquarters.
The long running campaign asks drivers to place a red ribbon on their vehicle and drive safe and sober during the holiday season.
LaSalle Police Chief John Leontowicz says the campaign works.
"I can tell you that, over four decades of policing and I know that red ribbon has been around since 1989 but it has had an affect and it has saved lives," says Leontowicz.
LaSalle Mayor Marc Bondy says the goal is to prevent impaired driving.
"It's great to partner up with MADD," says Bondy. "The chief's been a great proponent of this in his 20-years, I believe with the town and if we can save one life that means we've done something right."
The campaign runs until January 6th.
If you do not have a vehicle, you're asked to place a red ribbon on your purse, backpack, briefcase or bicycle.
Official MADD red ribbons are available at local police stations and through the MADD Canada website.
