So far so good for 7-month-old Madalayna Ducharme.
The little girl from Windsor received a bone marrow transplant Friday and the family says she's doing well.
Madalayna was diagnosed with a rare life threatening genetic disorder.
After several bone marrow donor clinics were held, her 2-year-old brother, Henrik, turned out to be an exact match.
Family friend Nicole Ramage says the battle has just started.
"Right now isn't really the main issue. So, although it looks like everything has gone well, it's really about from day 14 to day 27 when her body will decide whether this is going to work or not. It's a waiting game."
She says it has been a rollercoaster ride for the Ducharme's.
"Everything happened so quickly from the pediatrician realizing that there was something a little bit wrong and the hundreds of tests and everything that they've had to go through and traveling back and forth to London. It's hard to probably pinpoint how they're feeling because it's a mixture of everything from excitement to scary to excitement to scary."
Ramage adds the Ducharme's are thankful for all the support.
"The family could just use your prayers. A lot of people seem to think that the transplant has happened and now everything is great and that's not the way it works. So they'll continue to monitor her and hopefully, God willing, things will go well and she'll eventually be back to good health."
A fundraiser is being held next month to help cover the family's travel costs.
The event takes place April 1 at the Parkwood Gospel Temple from 4pm to 8pm.
