The rebuilding San Diego Padres and free agent infielder Manny Machado have reportedly agreed on a 10-year, $300-million contract.
The deal would be the largest ever for a free agent in Major League Baseball history.
A four-time All-Star, Machado hit .297 last year and set career highs with 37 homers and 107 runs batted in.
His deal reportedly includes an opt-out clause after five seasons.
The Padres lost 96 games last year, haven't had a winning season since 2009 and haven't been to the playoffs since 2006.
This is the second straight year the club has made a big signing in Spring Training, inking free agent first baseman Eric Hosmer to a seven-year, $144-million deal last year.
