"Opportunity and hard work" — that's what Windsor Spitfires captain Aaron Luchuk is crediting for his strong start to the season.
He says he put in a lot of hard work in the off-season and he's getting a lot of opportunity under head coach Trevor Letowski.
Luchuk was named the OHL and CHL Player of the Week after posting four goals and nine points this past weekend.
The 20-year-old is currently tied for the OHL scoring lead with 28 points while leading the league in goals with 15.
"It's a lot of hard work in the off-season and this year I'm getting a little bit more of an opportunity in an offensive role than in years past and that could probably be contributing to it and the team has been playing really well this past couple of weeks and that's been key to that," says Luchuk.
Luchuk says it feels good to be recognized by the league.
"First time I've ever got it in my career, so yeah it's a nice little momento to take from the year so far and hopefully will win a couple more this year."
Luchuk and the Spitfires are home to the Hamilton Bulldogs tomorrow night.
AM800 has the broadcast beginning at 6:30pm.
