One of Canada's best known authors — and a former student at Queen Victoria School in Windsor — has been honoured.
The school held a ceremony today attended by Ontario Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell.
Mowat was a student at the school from 1930 to 1933, his mother was the Librarian in the space where the ceremony was held.
Grade 6 student Ava Eagle read an outline of what Mowat did.
"His work has been translated to 52 languages, and he has sold more than 17-million books," says Eagle. "Mr. Mowat has said he was lucky to be able to combine his 2 passions of writing and nature, calling it the only subjects I really wanted to write about."

Lt. Gov. Dowdeswell told the students and school officials at the event that she has a similar motivation as Farley Mowat:
"When I was involved in the environmental movement, he of course was well known for that," says Dowdeswell. "So, he's a very special person. A person who believed in the world around him."
A plaque picturing Mowat and his years at Queen Victoria will be permanently placed in the school Library.
Mowat died in 2014.
