A new skatepark is on the way in Leamington.
Council has approved $370,000 for New Line Skateparks out of Toronto to design and build the new park.
The skatepark is set to be built on Seacliff Drive next to the Kinsmen Baseball Diamonds.
Leamington Mayor John Paterson says the project has been in the works for a long time.
"It's been like 10 years. The kids have been asking for this forever and a day, actually going right back to my first campaign to become mayor."
He feels the location has a lot of things going for it.
"Really, it's most accessible. I mean there's sidewalks and roadways. It's down by the ball diamonds where the kids already are. It's a well lit area. It's a very public area."

Paterson says the skatepark will help round out the community offerings in town.
"It's just one of those last feathers in your cap that you want to have and so Leamington will finally have it."
The project isn't expected to be completed until the end of November.
Paterson was hoping to have the skatepark open sooner than the current construction timeline.
"I said, 'Can you have it ready by next month?' And I think I sent administration into shock. It's going to take time."
Paterson adds Leamington is now the last municipality in Essex County to have a skatepark.
