Wineries across Essex County are helping to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday.
Ten local vintners are producing commemorative bottles of wine depicting the history of wine making in Essex County dating back to confederation.
Melissa Muscedere at Muscedere Vineyards in Harrow says winemaking has a rich tradition in Windsor-Essex.
"There were wineries here, especially in the Sandwich area in Windsor-Essex," says Muscedere. "There was Vinvilla out in Pelee Island. We had wineries here 150 years ago that, after prohibition, all kind of went away. Then we had the resurgence and now we have 18 epic wineries here in Essex County."
Muscedere adds several local wineries are taking part in what's being called 'The 1867 Project'.
"[They are] Aleksander, Coopers Hawk, Colio, Crew, Muscedere, North 42, Mastornardi, Pelee, Oxley, and Sprucewood. We have 10 commemorative labels telling 150 years worth of stories," says Muscedere.
The commemorative lables will be available at participating wineries starting May 27th.
