It's been yet another record setting year in support of hospice care.
Last year Hockey for Hospice raised $339,000 for Hospice of Windsor and Essex County — that's up from $301,000 the year before.
Tournament Co-Chair Paul Pietraszko says this year's total is more than $347,000 despite having less teams playing than last year.
He tells AM800 News organizers are constantly asked what the fundraising goal is, the answer is always as much as they can and the kids deliver.
"We never set one, because every year these children, these players, they just blow us away," he says. "Every time it just amazes me how much money they've raised."
Pietraszko says what's more impressive is the community's consistent support of hospice care.
"The kids go door-to-door but somebody has to give them that money," says Pietraszko. "It's the players, but it's also all the people that donate from all over Essex County. It couldn't happen without that generosity."
He says the motivation of people so young shows just how many lives hospice care has touched.
"A lot of these young children have already had experience with a family member in hospice, sadly. I think it means the world to them to see the comfort and care that they're given in those final few days or weeks, months, whatever it may be," he added.
More than 2,000 skaters were spread between arenas in Amherstburg, Lakeshore, LaSalle, Tecumseh and Windsor.
The tournament has now raised more than $3.2-million for local hospice services over the past 23-years.
