Frustration over Windsor-Essex being in Stage 1 of the province’s reopening framework is mounting for a Windsor restaurant owner.
Vern Myslichuk owns Bacchus Ristorante and Verna-Q-Lar Cocktail Lounge on Erie Street and says Monday’s announcement is devastating.
"We have a business to run, we have doors to open, we have employees to feed and we're in no go mode here," says Myslichuk.
He feels local businesses can open safely.
"This is not fun and games for people that are just trying to make a living and keep their doors open," says Myslichuk. "When you're going on three and a half, four months without an income, this is very very disruptive and it will put people out of business."
He says this is not fun and games for people trying to make a living.
"I'm not looking for a hand out, I'm looking to just open my doors and get back to work and be a productive member of society, that's what we want to do," says Myslichuk. "Of course we can do this as adults and we can open safely. "It makes no sense what so ever that we have people dictating how we can and cannot move forward."
It was announced on Monday afternoon that Toronto and Peel have been given the green light to enter the restart phase as of Wednesday — Leaving Windsor-Essex the only region in the province still in Stage 1.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported an increase of 32 cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours and 31 of those cases are in agri-farm sector workers.
