A member of the Erie Street BIA feels the city will hurt businesses if the fines increase for expired time at parking meters and parking lots.
Filip Rocca is owner of Mezzo Ristorante and Lounge on Erie Street.
He says during the lunch hour customers are already worried about feeding the meter while they're out.
Rocca thinks some people will stay away if the penalty increases.
"I think it will affect business a little bit in regards to the ticket people because they're swarming around here already so I just hope they're thinking it through a little bit more," says Rocca.
Rocca hopes the city eventually introduces the enhanced parking meters on Erie Street that accept card cards.
The city is looking at increasing the penalty in 2017 from $17 up to $20 for parking meters and city owned parking lots.
There is also a recommendation in the 2017 draft budget to increase monthly parking passes by five dollars a month and group discounts in parking lots and garages would also be eliminated.
If approved, the increases would result in an extra 200-thousand dollars in revenue for the city.
