The Greater Essex County District School Board has released its back to school reopening plan.
The 35-page document is broken down into sections and focuses on health and safety, transportation, well-being and supports for students along with supporting students with special needs.
Director of Education Erin Kelly says the plan also breaks down what is being done at the elementary and secondary levels.
She says elementary students will attend school five days a week.
"There would be enriched sort of protocols in terms of health protocols and lots of details with respect to entering and exiting the school for example," says Kelly. "There would be visual clues, signage, floor stickers, all that to promote social distancing."
She says secondary students will follow a quadmester schedule.
"Students will be taking two courses whether than the four and the reason for that, it would minimize the number of contacts students would have," says Kelly. "So it would be a safe environment and then the lunch would largely at the end of the day, although there would be nutrition breaks built in with the timetable but it would allow students to complete two courses within a 45 day period."
She says the board will be sending out a letter of confirmation later this week.
Kelly says the letter will ask parents if their child will be attending school in person this fall.
"We really need parents to let us know what their choices are for learning in the fall," says Kelly. "So we really hope to get that material, that information from parents soon so that we can start making sure we have a good handle on the numbers for our own planning and staffing purposes."
Trustees will discuss the plan Tuesday night during a special board meeting.
