The local president of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation says she's disappointed contract talks have got to this point.
Speaking on the Dan MacDonald Show, OSSTF District 9 President Erin Roy says the union was hoping to get a deal done to avoid the one day strike.
But a deal was not reached and OSSTF members hit the picket lines Tuesday morning.
She says here in Windsor-Essex the morale amongst her members is good.
Roy says her members have received support from the community and other teacher unions.
"You know it's not that often, that we're all completely united but I think in this case, we are and I think that should send alarm bells to the rest of the community that maybe aren't as well versed on what's happening in education," says Roy. "Like we're trying to raise the alarm bells, this is a three alarm fire as far as I'm concerned because you don't want these cuts."
