The New Democrat MP for Essex is describing an announcement by the Prime Minister as 'a shocking betrayal.'
Yesterday, Justin Trudeau dropped a campaign promise of electoral reform saying "Canadians don't have the appetite for change."
Tracey Ramsey disagrees and says public hearings held across the country last summer prove it. "During the hearings that they had, 90-percent of experts and and 80-percent of public testimony called for the public to adopt a proportional voting system. That is a large majority."
Ramsey says when M-P's left the House in December, the prime minister was still promising that this would be the last election with the 'first-past-the-post' system.
"The government wasted taxpayers' money having an all-party committee travel the country last summer to get input from experts and Canadians," says Ramsey. "The Liberals simply don't want to change the current system because it's what gave them a majority government with just 39-percent of the popular vote."
