A local mother and son have been eliminated from Amazing Race Canada.

In Tuesday night’s episode, Surria and Ameen Fadel were part of a rare double-elimination in the eighth leg of the race.

On top of that, it is also the closest mat finish in the show’s history, with the Fadel’s hitting the mat just one second after the fourth-placed team.

The Fadel’s travelled across Canada, from coast to coast, doing incredible adventures along the way.

Surria Fadel says she was heart-broken when it happened in real life, and watching it on TV on Tuesday was just as disappointing.

“It really sucks to have to watch it again and relive the moment because it was so hard to just hear John say that we’ve been eliminated. But a relief that now we don’t have to keep pretending that we’re still in it. And people asking us, did you win the whole thing and how far did you go?”

Ameen Fadel says they watched Tuesday night’s episode on the edge of their seat, with family and friends who didn’t know the outcome.

“Seeing that final race to the mat was pretty tough and all the emotions came back and it sucked to relive. But I agree, it’s like now it’s over. We think we represented ourselves and our community well and we ran a good race and we gave it our all 100 per cent of the time and we had the time of our lives. So it was something that we will cherish forever.”

Ameen and Surria Fadel say now that the race is over, there are some places they hope to revisit so they can enjoy the towns - as tourists.

“Just in the little town in Jasper, you see deer’s running across the road, you see elk hanging out there, you see mountain goats and you see wild horses. It’s so cool. So that was definitely a place that we want to go back to. And then Digby for the scallops. Oh my God I love scallops, but I had no idea how good they could taste.”

There are just four racers and two legs left in the show which you can watch on CTV on Tuesday nights or stream on Crave.
