Midwifery services in Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent are getting some extra funding.
The province has announced it is providing an additional $1,062,891 this year to support midwives in this area.
Midwives of Windsor receive $370,000, Midwifery Collective of Essex County gets $344,000 and Midwives of Chatham-Kent Inc get $348,000.
140,000 babies are born each year in Ontario and the province says families are looking for more options.
Chatham-Kent Leamington PC MPP Rick Nicholls says the additional funding will mean more families will be able to access quality care from a midwife during pregnancy, birth as well as six weeks of support once the baby is born.
The funding is part of a provincial government announcement of an additional $28-million to expand the services in Ontario.
"Investing in midwifery is smart as health reform and illness prevention is our future and midwives provide quality, cost effective care that delivers excellent outcomes," says Crystal Hall of Midwives of Windsor.
