Ontario's minister of municipal affairs should be getting an earful next week from local mayors.
As part of the Rural Ontario Municipal Association conference next week in Toronto, Essex County Warden Tom Bain will be meeting with Minister Bill Mauro to talk about the province's Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians program.
Minister Mauro briefly toured some of the flood areas back in September.
Bain says he has heard from residents that the program isn't working and only covers a fraction of the costs.
"I was talking today with a resident who was a little upset once they had given their allotments, their initial request was for $11,000 and they ended up with $900," says Bain.
Damage from sewer backup is not eligible under the program except under special provisions for low-income households.
Bain says there should be a small delegation from this area meeting with the minister.
"We are hoping to bring the mayor of Tecumseh with us and the mayor of the city of Windsor and possibly Essex and LaSalle because all of these areas have been affected by the flooding."
The storm back in August dropped more than 200mm of rain and flooded thousands of homes in Windsor, Tecumseh and Lakeshore.
The deadline to apply for funding has been extended to March 20, 2018.
