Union leaders in Windsor joined others across the province in a massive rally this morning in Toronto to protect skilled trades workers.
They are demanding Schedule 17 of Bill 70 be removed which the union claims waters down the accreditation for skilled trades workers.
Unifor local 444 President Dino Chiodo attended the rally and says it deteriorates the health and safety standards for uncertified labourers.
He says this is a race to the bottom.
"They are basically saying hey you don't have to have the skill set to do electrical work, all we need to do is tell you the basics, this is positive this is negative go connect the wires and we think that is going to be severe with regards to having workplace injuries or workplace deaths," says Chiodo.
"It is really allowing scabs to do our work in the trades groups and that is something we shouldn't accept."
He believes Schedule 17 weakens the Ontario College of Trades which will create more unrest in the industry.
Bill 70 is preparing to go to 2nd reading in the Ontario legislature.
