A Windsor high school business and computer science teacher has been recognized by the Prime Minister.
Rocky Ieraci — who teaches at Holy Names — has received a Certificate of Achievement for the 2016-17 Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellent.
"Last week I got a note saying that I was honoured with this achievement award," says Ieraci. "I received a package this week with a signed letter from the Prime Minister congratulating me and an honourary pin and a monetary award — it was quite gratifying."
Ieraci was nominated for the award by a teaching colleague. He began his career at F.J. Brennan Catholic High School in 1987 before moving to Holy Names 10 years later. Ieraci was one of 52 awards handed out across the country this year and was the only one from Windsor-Essex to win one this year.
Ieraci — who was nominated by a colleague — never thought he actually be honoured.
"I really didn't but after 30 years of teaching it was neat to have to go back and go through all the different things and clubs I've been involved with — different things I've done in teaching," says Ieraci. "It was a nice way to go back and reminisce about that anyway."
