News of temporary barriers on the 401 is music to the ears of Alysson Storey.
Storey founded the group "Build the Barrier" after a friend of hers and the friend's five-year-old daughter, were killed in a crash on Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent on August 29, 2017.
Until then, the province will install high-tension cable barriers.
Storey says her group and many others have worked very hard to have their voices heard.
"It's bittersweet because the people that we love, we can't bring them back," says Storey. "But we can certainly make sure that no one else has to go through this."
While the goal is still concrete barriers, Storey says they're cautiously optimistic.
"We are are please to have this interim measure put in starting as soon as construction season starts," Storey adds. "The ultimate goal is still the concrete and we want to make sure the government honours that commitment.
A petition signed by more than 3,000 people supporting concrete barriers between Windsor and London, was presented in the Ontario Legislature back in October.
