Plans are being unveiled for the Walker Road site just north of the E.C. Row Expressway.
The land is owned by the Greek Orthodox Community and construction is set to get underway on a community centre and church in the next few days.
Community President, Panos Sechopoulos, says the church will be similar to the one they currently have on Ellis Street while the community centre will be about 12,000-square-feet and will include classroom space for a weekend Greek school, a members lounge and banquet hall facilities.
He says the wood lot on the site that had caused concern in the past will be left alone.
Sechopoulos says the City of Windsor has been great to work with in zoning the site and preparing permits.
The Walker Road site was acquired when land in Oldcastle was expropriated by the Ministry of Transportation for the Herb Gray Parkway.
Construction is expected to be completed by December 2017.
Sechopoulos says if all goes well, the second phase of construction will include soccer fields and beach volleyball courts.
