A local fraternity at the University of Windsor is trying to raise awareness on homelessness in the city.
Members of Pi Lambda Phi have gone "homeless to help the homeless."
They spent last night in a shelter they built from discarded materials such as cardboard, tarps, twine and wooden pallets.
Vice President Braeden Irish says they're raising money and collecting food and clothing donations for the Downtown Mission.
He says the fraternity has been assisting the Downtown Mission for 20 years.
Irish says the event averages about $800 in cash donations and the fraternity also receives clothes and food for those in need)
He says the frat was able to collect $400 on the first night.
"I'm blown away right now." says Irish, "We're also starting to get the food donations which are amazing. If anyone would like to donate please come out. There's always going to be someone at the shed. It's kind of hard to miss it. It's a big blue box."
This is the 20th year the fraternity has assisted the Downtown Mission.
The members will once again spend the night outdoors this evening.
Their shelter is located near Leddy Library and the CAW Student Centre.
They'll be out there collecting donations until 2pm on Saturday.
