The 16 women competed in the pageant at the Capitol Theatre in downtown Windsor last weekend.

She tells AM800 news why she wanted to compete in the show.
"I think pageantry is something more than just what people see online," says Johnston. "You gain a lot of sisters and friends and you gain a lot of confidence and experience from them. A lot of doors can open and you meet a lot of important people in the industries. So I think it was just something that it was the right time in my life to try this and we'll see how it goes."
Cierra Bray, Kallie Szarka, Karol Lopez Penagos, Nicolette Santilli, Sara Pizzicaroli, Tasha Toulouse and Taylor Galvano all advanced to the nationals.
The local finalists will now compete on August 18th against other pageant winners from across the country for the Miss Universe Canada title.
