Tecumseh's Andrew Dowie has received the Order of Honour from Professional Engineers Ontario.
He was recognized last weekend in Toronto for his contributions in engineering. Dowie received the award after being nominated by his peers.
The Tecumseh councillor tells AM800 News It's a special honour.
"It has identified those who have contributed service to the profession and have gone kind of above and beyond in terms of promoting engineering and doing work to advance the engineering profession," says Dowie. "I'm really excited to be recognized."
Dowie says it's not the first time an engineer from Essex County has one the award.
"The last individuals from our area to be recognized was back in 2014 so it's not something that happens that often," says Dowie. "I'm quite excited and very thankful that the work that I've done has meant something to the profession."
He says most of the individuals who have been previously recognized have been in the industry for quite some time.
"I do have a decade that's really post graduation," says Dowie. "I'm still fairly young in the grand scheme of things so to get this honour at my age especially is not very common."
Dowie is currently an engineer with the city of Windsor.
