Local paramedics are preparing to defend their gold medal at an international paramedic competition coming up in May.
It takes place in the Czech Republic and involves teams from 20 countries.
Team Ontario, which won the event last year, is made up of four members of Essex-Windsor EMS.
During the competition, the paramedics have to be able to respond to any random emergency scenario given to them.
Team Leader Chris Kirwan says they've been working hard to defend their title. "We started last fall preparing, starting our fundraising, contacting sponsors and doing a bit of team work. Now we are moving into the phase where we train with people. So we do a lot of training with allied agencies learning how to do advance skills and we have also learned a few out of the box scenarios and situations we might encounter. We have learned to handle that as well."
The competition takes place May 27th.
