A Tecumseh doctor is facing disciplinary action after he was found to have committed an act of professional misconduct - engaging in the sexual abuse of a patient.
The College of Physicians and Surgeons reviewed the case of 54-year-old Dr. Haider Hasnain who practised as a family physician at the Tecumseh Community Care Clinic.
As well as the sexual abuse finding, the college found he has engaged in conduct or an act that would reasonably be regarded by members of the college as disgraceful, dishonourable or unprofessional.
The case stems from a consensual relationship with a female patient in her 50's that happened in 2009 and early 2010 and included sexual intercourse and oral sex.
The College's disciplinary panel heard that the patient started videotaping her encounters with Dr. Hasnain, including the sexual encounters, without his knowledge.
The panel found that the sexual relationship was happening at the same time as their physician-patient relationship.
He has been issued an immediate interim suspension of his certificate of registration.
A penalty hearing has yet to be scheduled.
