A Windsor company that cleans and processes items after a disaster like a fire or flood is celebrating Earth Day.

It's a goal of the Contents Processing Centre to keep as much of the material from entering a landfill as possible.

The facility on North Talbot Rd. uses a variety of cleaning techniques to bring back people's property after a disaster.

Content Restoration Specialist Jeremy Brown says they use the most environmentally friendly techniques possible.

"We're celebrating Earth Day at CPC because we try and limit the amount of contents that are being put in landfill when there are claims we do that ultimately we also clean them using greener techniques.  So we clean with water, we clean with bio-based detergents."

CPC works closely with Pinchin, and Senior Project Manager Jessica Brown says they make sure the home is safe to occupy.

"Earth Day we partner up with CPC if they're ever working with any mould investigations or fire investigations we do the testing after the fact to make sure it's safe for human occupancy."

Brown says about 200 people came out to their Earth Day event, about twice as many as last year.

The event also raised nearly $5,300 for Assisted Living Southwest Ontario.
