People were smiling at St. Clair College.
The Essex County Dental Society held its "Operation Smile" on Friday which is a dental clinic for people in need who might not otherwise be able to afford it.
The one day event in the Anthony P. Toldo Centre for Applied Health Sciences, is designed to promote oral health and provide basic restorative and surgical services.
About 20 dentists performed dental surgeries ranging from fillings to extractions.
More than 40 patients had to be assessed, have a dental cleaning and x-rays prior to today's clinic.
Chair of the School of Health Sciences Dr. Ken Blanchette says it is a win-win for the patients and students.
"When you think of the work that needs to get done for these patients, they are a little afraid," he says. "It is nice because the students are a little nervous as well and I think it is a good atmosphere for them and everybody gets into it."
Patient Tom Allen arrived Friday morning for his dental surgery and feels sorry for his dentist.
"I think these guys need a trophy, it is perfect. I couldn't afford it, I'm on disability so it works out good for me."
The St. Clair College Dental Clinic operates from September to mid-June for dental assessments and dental hygiene care.
