It's the end of the office holiday party for at least one local company.
Advanced Rehabilitation Centres are doing away with the party this year after a staff vote.
Instead, money the company would use for the party will be donated to the Welcome Centre Shelter For Women.
Dr. Greg Cooper is with the centre and says the clinic employs 40 people at its three locations in Windsor and Tecumseh.
He says 31 staff members voted and only two were in favour of a holiday party.
Dr. Cooper says staff picked the Welcome Centre Shelter For Women.
"Several different people actually came across with the name of the Women's Welcome Shelter in the west end and we looked it up and we said this is absolutely the best place to be spending out money for the holidays," says Dr. Cooper. "So we took that vote, we phoned the executive director Lady Laforet at the shelter and she was so thrilled we were doing that."
Dr. Cooper says the company normally spends about $4,000 on a Christmas party so the entire amount will be donated to the Welcome Shelter.
"We go to the restaurant and everyone dresses up and we sit and have dinner and then that was the end of it," says Dr. Cooper.
He says the clinics will be closing early on December 20th so all staff can attend the shelter for the present the cheque.
