The local branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association wants people to think about brain health.
It has launched "Wellness Wednesdays" and is encouraging people to take a walk every Wednesday during the spring and summer.
Local association CEO Claudia den Boer says it helps mental health and reduce stress. "It is important to take care of your mental health. There really is no physical health without mental health," she says.
den Boer says it doesn't matter how long people walk, as even a stroll around the block can help people disconnect. "You need to leave your phone at home because that can be a stress and we need to step away from that feeling of being tethered," she says.
den Boer says right now, only 6.5% of the provincial budget is set aside for mental health when in reality, it should be 9%.
