Windsor-Essex will join the rest of Ontario in Stage 3 of the province's reopening plan on Wednesday.
The provincial government made the announcement Monday morning.
Outbreaks among migrant workers on farms had previously kept Windsor-Essex in Stage 2 while other parts of the province started entering Stage 3 July 17.
President and CEO of the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce Rakesh Naidu says it's exciting news for the region.
"This is what everyone was waiting for," says Naidu. "A lot of businesses were hoping that we would get into stage three soon and here we are, though it's been a few days delayed but we're very excited and delighted we're moving to stage three."
He says more businesses will benefit with the region moving to stage three.
"Those that were not able to increase their business volume because of some restrictions in stage two, I think they will benefit but more and probably the businesses that were not allowed to open in stage two those businesses will open as well so very welcome news," says Naidu.
He adds the region does not want to go backwards and is asking the public and business operators to follow all safety measures that have been put in place.
"Nobody wants to have restrictions put in place again so the onus is on us to ensure that we are taking all precautions, we are following all health and safety guidelines and the community remains safe, a safe place to carry out business," says Naidu.
