The Unemployed Help Centre is going to help to members of Unifor Local 195 struggling to put food on the table during the COVID-19 pandemic.
A drive thru food bank will be set-up Tuesday outside the union hall on Somme Avenue, where pre-packaged food boxes will be handed out.
Local 195 President Emile Nabbout says his members will be receiving dry good items, fresh fruits and vegetables along with milk and eggs.
"We do know some of our members, and there are a number of people in the community as well that could lend a hand, could help those members who feel their income is short," he says. "I think it's a good generous package coming from the Unemployed Help Centre to help those people in need."
Nabbout says people don't need to get out of their car.
"We have volunteers who are using all the extra precautions and safety, and follow all the recommendations for social distancing," he says. "So they just load it in the car and there you go, you go home."
Local 195 represents 4,800 members and Nabbout believes more than 200 people will attend the drive thru food bank.
The drive thru will be open from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
