Windsor police have released more details after a jogger was struck and killed by a train in east Windsor over the weekend.
Police were called Saturday at 6:30pm to the railway tracks at Jefferson Blvd. and South Service Rd.
When officers arrived, they found two separate trains stopped along the intersection and a deceased man who had been struck by a train.
Investigators believe the man was jogging southbound on Jefferson, when he came across the stopped westbound train.
Witnesses reported that the jogger proceeded past the activated train signal lighting and lowered extended railway arm.
He then climbed through two stopped railway cars of the westbound train and was struck and instantly killed by a passing eastbound train.
It is believed he was wearing headphones and may not have heard the approaching train.
Sergeant Steve Betteridge says people should not forget about this tragedy and learn from it.
"What we try to do and want to do from something like this, is be able to not let it quickly pass in people's mind," says Sergeant Betteridge.
He says the jogger made an extremely dangerous and fatal decision.
"I can not stress the dangers that anyone, any age, is putting themselves in when they disobey train crossing signals and warning signs and cross on the tracks like that," he says.
The investigation continues.
