Crime Stoppers of Windsor-Essex has doubled the reward to try and arrest whoever is responsible for stealing a John Atkinson Memorial Plaque.
The plaque was last seen on Friday, August 3 and was discovered missing on Tuesday, August 7.
It had been on display at the University of Windsor Chrysler Building on Sunset Avenue.
The plaque is a shadowbox with a photo of the funeral at the St. Denis Centre with a replica badge in the corner.
Crime Stoppers held a board meeting Monday night and voted to double the reward to $900 to $1000 in hopes of recovering the tribute to Constable Atkinson.
"To have that plaque and such a respectful tribute to him stolen is really distasteful and our community has said do what you can to help get it back," says Crime Stoppers Police Coordinator Amanda Allen."
"Our hearts go out to the Atkinson family, to have to go through this, to lose a family member in such a tragic way is difficult enough, but to have someone disrespect his memory is even worse."
She says Atkinson's death remain raw in the community and any intolerance to his memory or any disrespect to his memory won't be tolerated.
Atkinson was shot and killed while investigating a drug deal in May 2006.
