The dog was spotted Monday morning in a car

A Chatham man has been charged with allegedly leaving a dog in a car.

Police received information Monday morning that a dog was left in a car in a parking lot on Keil Drive.

Due to the hot and humid temperatures, the owner, a 58-year-old man was charged with leaving an animal unattended in a motor vehicle when weather conditions are not suitable, contrary to the Responsible Animal Ownership By-law.

Chatham-Kent Police Constable Renee Cowell says the dog wasn't in the car for a long time.

"We immediately responded to the area and found the dog alone in the car," says Constable Cowell.  "Luckily the dog was ok but that's because a concerned citizen called it in so quickly."

The owner was issued a $365 fine.
