The Lions are making quarterback Matthew Stafford the highest paid player in the NFL.
Detroit announced its agreed to a five-year contract extension with Stafford that keeps him with the team through the 2022 season.
The deal is worth $135-million or $27-million per season, making Stafford the highest paid player in NFL history.
Stafford threw for 4,327 yards, 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions last season.
Detroit took him with the number-one overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft and the Georgia alum is entering his ninth year with the organization.
