Detroit Lions linebacker Trevor Bates is being charged with assault after he allegedly punched a New York City police officer.
Reports say the 25-year-old NFL player was on his way to his hotel in Queens early Saturday morning when he refused to pay a cab driver 32-bucks for the ride.
The cabbie called police, who arrested Bates and took him into the precinct.
While there, he became upset and punched Sergeant James O'Brien in the face.
Bates was hit with a stun gun in response, and O'Brien was taken to the hospital to be treated for a concussion and stitches above his eye.
