A Liberal leadership candidate is worried about the Ontario supply of insulin with Americans coming over to this side of the border to purchase the life-saving medication.
Michael Coteau is reacting after U.S. Senator and presidential candidate Bernie Sanders joined a caravan of Americans who visited Windsor on Sunday to purchase insulin, because it is cheaper here.
Coteau says people in Windsor, like all Canadians, are extremely sympathetic to our American neighbours, but Canada simply cannot meet the medication supply needs of a country ten times its size.
He says Health Canada must carefully monitor the insulin supply in Windsor and other border communities to assure Canadians patients that our medication supplies will continue to be met.
An American mother purchased insulin for her son to last six months and saved close to $10,000.
