The Canada Border Services Agency is out with its 2016 statistics for southern Ontario, including numbers relating to legal and illegal immigrants.
With recent attention given to U.S President Donald Trump's Muslim travel ban, it's interesting to note that last year in Canada border officials removed 720 foreign nationals from southern Ontario, and arrested over 350 foreigners trying to enter Canada illegally, or for being in Canada illegally.
The numbers come from border crossings, airports, and marine reporting stations spread across the Windsor, Sarnia, and London areas, as well as the Niagara Region.
Of all travellers who were processed, more than 13,000 people landed as permanent residents.
Meantime, roughly 3,900 refugee claims were also processed, that's a 41% increase from 2015.
