Leamington Council wants to freshen up some of its uptown area.
A session was held this week (July 19) for council and administration to share ideas and develop a plan to move forward.
Mayor John Paterson says they're looking to focus mainly on the Mill Street area.
He says there were several ideas put out for ways to make improvements including narrowing the street, adding pedestrian parkland type areas, going to angle parking on the road.
He says council is looking to give property owners tools to improve:
"Tthere are a lot of tired buildings in town there are a lot of landlords that need encouragement to bring their properties up to standard, up to the quality our uptown merchants want to see" said Paterson. "We're re-writing our CIP (Community Improvement Plan) program we had for the BIA designated area. We are going to expand it and make it simpler"
The town has purchased 2 parcels of land that are part of Shotten Park and they want to upgrade those as well as the property of the former Village Inn that burned down.
Paterson says the session was valuable because often council doesn't get a chance to brainstorm while focused on day-to-day items.
