Leamington has reopened its leash-free dog park at Bayview Park.
The dog park was closed for four weeks as part of ongoing upgrades happening throughout the entire park at 435 Bevel Line.
Mayor Hilda MacDonald says the dog park portion of the park reopened on Monday.
She says the dog park now has a separate area for smaller dogs.
“We got some new water stations,” she says. “We had to close it up just to get everything in place. There’s all the construction going on.”
MacDonald says the entire park is getting a facelift.
“We’re expanding it, we’re planting trees, we’re building walking paths, and all of that is part of the whole thing, but you don’t want to leave pet owners without a place to walk their dogs, so we made it a priority so people weren’t inconvenienced for long, so we’re ready to go.”
She says that even though the dog park has reopened, crews are still working throughout the park.
“There is still work going on in the rest of the park and still will be for a little while, but people have access to it, and their dogs will be safe,” she says.
The north entrance to the dog park is the only entrance open to the public.
he municipality says crew may occasionally need to complete minor work in the dog park.
MacDonald says the upgrades throughout the entire park are expected to be completed this year.
