A Leamington based grower of medical marijuana is making plans for the introduction of recreational marijuana.
Plans by the federal government are to be made public later this month.
In the meantime, Leamington grower Aphria is looking at expansion plans to accommodate the recreational market. CEO Vic Neufeld says "in January I have a board meeting and we're presenting a major overhaul plan on the remaining what we're referring to as the Part 4 expansion."
Part four is 600 to 700 thousand square feet of greenhouse space just for the recreational market.
Neufeld says, by the end of next year, Aphria will have about 300,000 square feet under glass for the medical side of the business.
Neufeld believes it will be mid to late 2018 before recreational marijuana is legalized in Canada with a distribution system up and running.
