It's official, John Paterson will be seeking a third term as Leamington's Mayor.
Paterson has spent the past eight years at the helm of the municipality after previously serving as a councillor.
He tells AM800 News — after consulting with his wife — he decided to commit to another term to finish what he started. "We have accomplished so much, we really have a positive ball rolling in Leamington," he says. "There are a number of fairly significant initiatives that I'm rather deeply embedded in, and I'd like to see them come to fruition."
There are two projects Paterson wants to see through, more than $11-million in new sewer lines will be installed, and $1.7-million will be spent on the Up-Town Rejuvenation project. "We're putting shovels in the ground this year [for the uptown revitalization]. The second significant project is the installation of sewer-lines up Hwy. 77 to the north end of Leamington to pick up the greenhouse and residential effluence that is finding its way into Lake Erie, also along Seacliff Dr. and County Rd. 20," says Paterson.
He hopes to keep the town's positive momentum going with the support of council. "It is our entire council, we've worked together as a team and we really, really have accomplished a lot," he says. "There's more on that has to happen but we're looking forward to it."
The municipal election will be held on Monday, Oct. 22.
