Policing continues to be a topic of discussion in Leamington.
Deputy Mayor Larry Verbeke says an online survey has been launched, asking residents and business owners what they think of the current police service in the municipality.
"We just want to see the public's opinion on, are they satisfied or are they not satisfied," says Verbeke. "There's a place in there for comments, what would you like to see come up and it's just something that we got to make the decision but we still would like some input from the public."
Right now, the Ontario Provincial Police provides the service under a three year agreement but the town has an option to terminate the contract after year one.
According to Verbeke there is a lot of talk in the town about policing and he's expecting high participation for the survey.
"It would be high so let's get them out there now and put your thoughts and everything into the survey,” he says.
In December 2019, Mayor Hilda MacDonald told AM800 news, the municipality is actively looking at other policing options. She ssays both the Chatham Kent Police Service and Windsor Police Service have expressed interest in taking over.
Residents and business owners have until June 5 to complete the online survey.
