The Toronto Maple Leafs didn't take any chances of losing defenceman Connor Carrick for nothing on waivers.
The Dllas Stars have acquired Carrick from Toronto for a conditional seventh-round draft pick next year.
The draft pick will become a sixth-rounder if he plays in 50 N-H-L games this season.
Carrick didn't make the Leafs out of camp and would have had to clear waivers to join the A-H-L Marlies.
