The Toronto Maple Leafs announced the signing of star free agent John Tavares via Twitter Sunday.
The five-time all-star centre is going home agreeing to terms on a seven-year deal worth $77-million.
Tavares scored 37 goals and added 47 assists in 82 games for the New York Islanders last year.
The 27-year-old centre from Mississauga was drafted first overall by the Islanders in 2009 — scoring 621 points over 669 games.
He's gathered gold medals five times playing for Canada, including Olympic gold in Sochi.
